2018 KRIHS-IDB Urban Development Academy (KIUDA)

Theme: The 4th KRIHS-IDB Urban Development Academy (KIUDA) for high-ranking government officials from LAC countries

The Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) held The 4th KRIHS-IDB Urban Development Academy (KIUDA) jointly designed by the KRIHS and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) from October 15th (Mon) to 18th (Thur) in Seoul Lotte Hotel(37F, Garnet Suite).

Among the 19 participants in the program were the Vice Minister of Ministry of Habitat and Local Development in Dominique and other 16 high-ranking officials from 11 countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Costa Rica, Dominique, Ecuador, Honduras, Panama, Peru and Uruguay) and 2 staffs from IDB. The KIUDA is aimed to share current issues and experiences on national territorial and urban development.

From the opening ceremony in October 15th, the 4-day lasting KIUDA included lectures on Korea national planning, urban development policies, housing, metropolitan management and smart citie and site visits including urban Seoullo 7017, Cheonggyestream for urban regeneration and Seoul Transportation Operation and Information Service (TOPIS) for urban management and smart cities, which provided applicable measures to developing countries.

In the closing ceremony, participants explored detailed measures of trilateral cooperative projects among KRIHS-IDB-LACs based on the discussions during the last 4 days. The director of the GDPC in KRIHS, Sehoon Park suggested developing KIUDA in depth and building strong relationship between Korea and LAC countries for the future.

The Vice Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Ordering, Juan Vasquez impressed with the Korean rapid growth after the Korean war and expressed gratitude to KRIHS for sharing Korean urban development know-hows.

After the workshop, it is expected that KRIHS and IDB will develop mutual cooperation to discuss Korea ODA projects and technical cooperation on urban and housing issues in LAC countries.
